Acupuncture's Significant Role in Treating Pain
and its Causes
Whether you have chronic or acute pain, there is a lot of evidence-based research to support the healing and pain-relieving effects of acupuncture for a wide range of issues.
How do we address your unique issue?
At Niantic Acupuncture & Family Wellness, we have worked with a large variety of issues causing pain – including muscle, fascia, joint, bone, tendon, nerve damage or impingement, and even scar tissue.
Because every single person who walks through our door has a unique way of manifesting his or her injury and pain, our treatments are tailored to many factors:
Your pain tolerance along with the nature and severity of injury. The extent of the tendon, muscle and fascia connective tissue involvement,
The presence of scar tissue especially if there has been surgical repair work
The condition of circulation in the painful or injured area,
The underlying the cause of your pain or injury
And most certainly the location of your pain or injury
All of these factors, along with any stress, emotion or possible trauma associated with your pain and injury, determine your individual treatment methods.
Each follow up treatment includes a careful review to determine your body’s response which will indicate any adjustment in treatment method needed.
What other modalities can we use to treat your pain?
At Niantic Acupuncture, we will use any number of the following methods, singly or in combination:
How many treatments will I need?
That answer will be different for everyone. It will depend on the cause, nature, and extent of the injury, in addition to the length of time you've been suffering. Pain and injury that is only days, weeks, or a couple of months old can be helped in as little as three to six treatments given once a week. Occasionally, we recommend twice weekly for a few weeks for a very ‘stuck’ problem, but in every instance our goal is to help you heal effectively and return to normal functioning as soon as possible. For a more long-term injury, we may recommend a longer-term treatment plan.
What can I expect from Acupuncture?
Reduction of the pain you came in with
Efficient and speedy healing
Increase in your range of motion of affected area
Decrease in stiffness due to acupuncture’s effect in decreasing swelling, inflammation and built up fascial and scar tissue.
No matter what is being treated, acupuncture will always support your healing at the emotional, psychological, and mental levels due to its well documented effect of balancing the nervous system which reduces the effects of stress and pain.
Some fun facts about Acupuncture:
Acupuncture, electroacupuncture and acupuncture with moxibustion has been shown to stimulate the regeneration of cartilage in knees and ankles
Acupuncture is shown to stimulate the production of stem cells in adults therefore the regrowth and healing of damaged nerve tissues which to some extent happens with every injury
Acupuncture signals the brain and nervous system in a variety of ways causing the production and release of hormonal and neurotransmitter pain killers that work better than prescribed opiates
Acupuncture increases circulation to sites that need the blood flow for healing, especially in areas built up with excess scar connective tissue which is blocking circulation from getting to the area.
